Beaches

We breakfasted well in the hotels outdoor dining area.

weather was set to be hot, hot, hot. Then we retrieved the beast and set off for Coronado beach. This is on a little island over a big bridge and houses the world famous Coronado hotel. We intended to swim but a notice about stingrays and jellyfish lurking in the water waiting to pounce put us off. I remember Steve Irwin. So we paddled, shuffling our feet all the way like the notice said. The beach was covered in tiny gold flecks that sparkled in the sun.

We then headed to Balboa park, think golden gate park with palm trees. It was simply beautiful. Loads of free parking, museums, gardens, a free shuttle bus, cafes, and sun.

We wandered around and had some lunch before heading out to the coast again at sunset cliffs.

Finally we had a stop at mission beach, where we did swim and frolic in the waves.

We were headed back to LA tonight so we left beautiful San Diego around 4pm praying the freeway wouldn't be as bad as yesterday. We did get held up where three six lane roads suddenly merged (why?) but it wasn't so bad. Especially as we stopped off at s Denny's for some tea. Around 9pm we were rolling into LA trying to spot the batman sign in the air (no joy) and the Hollywood sign on the hill ( no joy either). We headed for Beverly Hills 90210 where our hotel was situated and pulled up to the valet parking at the Hotel Beverly Terrace. The guy in reception was really welcoming and the room is lovely. It's a suite really with Vicky behind a closed door for once and we got welcome cookies!

And a cocktail maker!

We also got a welcome glass of prosecco in a lovely open air bar.

All in all a splendid day.

  1. At last. You've been swimming. I was just about to call you wimps for not going in the sea.

Homeward bound

As you will all know, the full title of the excellent Homeward Bound 2, is lost in San Francisco. Well we weren't lost, but we were home...
