La La Land

We had a bit of a lie in today and didn't breakfast till 9, then it was off to Hollywood! We parked underneath the Dolby Theatre, Ian carefully avoiding the valet parking, ($15 just for self park!) and came up in its vast shopping mall. We bought tickets for the theatre tour and presented ourself on the red carpet as requested. 

As you all know, (Ian had no clue) the Dolby Theatre is where they hold the Oscars. We were given a tour through the foyer and into the VIP room

Then we were taken backstage past the dressing rooms and onto the stage itself!

Then backstage and up in the VIP elevator. It was all very exciting. 

Next we headed to the pavement in front and the walk of fame, where all the stars are. We found some exciting ones. 

And not least

It was very hot out there, and you had to be really on your toes and avoid eye contact or you could end up buying allsorts from various shady characters. 

We bought a sandwich at a small cafe in the Dolby complex, where we found we could validate the parking ticket and only pay $6. Then we headed for the Warner brothers tour. We were taken on a tram around the lot and were able to see where lots of films and programmes were made.

Vicky was sorted into Hufflepuff (loser)

We saw loads of Harry Potter costumes

We got to use forced perspective

We went to prison

We saw lots of batmans cars

And we got to hold a real (very heavy) oscar. 

It was a really enjoyable tour

Disappointment followed though as our planned trip to the Griffiths observatory had to be aborted due to a Boston/Joan Jet concert at the Greek Theatre. We just drove up the road, passed it, then drove back down because we couldn't park. 

We decided to return to the hotel, spruce up, and go down to their lovely restaurant for dinner. It was quite exciting in a "all human life is here" sort of way. The food and ambience were good though, and Vicky got ID'd for the first time! 

We retired to our Beverley Hills 90210 suite and closed the door on vicky for the night.
